Das Prinzip der HIFU-Behandlung ist, wie bei jeder Prostatakarzinomtherapie, dass man das gesamte Gewebe behandeln möchte. Sollte in der Folge wieder etwas auftreten und man kann es bildgebend darstellen und histologisch, also durch eine Probe sichern, dann kann man dieses Gebiet mit HIFU nochmals behandeln. Das ist zum Beispiel ein Unterschied zur Bestrahlung. Die Bestrahlung kann man einmal machen, danach ist die Dosis erreicht. Die Operation kann man auch nur einmal machen. Nachoperieren ist in der Regel nicht möglich.
